Scott and White Diet
Scott & White is a leading hospital which has been open for over 100 years in the city of Temple, Texas. It is also the clinical education center for The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center College of Medicine. That’s probably why someone took the infamous “grapefruit diet” and put Scott & White’s name on it. Scott & White has vehemently denied having anything to do with this diet. It is the same diet also erroneously attributed to the Mayo Clinic. If you are interested in eating a lot of grapefruit, here are the details:
BREAKFAST
1/2 grapefruit or juice (unsweetened)
2 eggs any style
1 slice bacon
LUNCH
1/2 grapefruit or juice (unsweetened)
Salad. (Full-fat dressing only)
Meat (whatever you like, as much as you want)
DINNER
1/2 grapefruit or juice (unsweetened)
Meat or Fish (whatever you like, as much as you want)
Green or red vegetables, cooked however you want.
BEDTIME SNACK
8 oz. tomato juice or skim milk
This diet will supposedly help you lose ten pounds in ten days, although there may be cause for skepticism among some people when one reads the following directives:
“At any meal, you may eat until you cannot eat any more.”
“Eat until you are stuffed.”
“Fat does not form fat, it helps burn it. Fry foods in butter.”
On one hand, it appears to be a modified low-carb approach. On the other hand, letting portions get out of hand is an unusual strategy for weight loss. The diet has been around for a long time, so people have probably seen some success with it. There is little data as to whether people who lose weight keep it off in the long term.
