PRISM Diet

The PRISM diet is a weight loss program that was designed in 1990. It is a program centered in Christian belief and experience. The creators of the program believe that through following Biblical principles of accountability, people can transform their lives—not just lose weight, but become a more whole person emotionally and spiritually. They use “truth, hope, and encouragement” to help people change negative eating behaviors for life.

The eating program itself follows a modified low carbohydrate approach, with all white flour and sugar removed from the diet. The daily calorie limit is lower than normal, but enough that dieters can feel satisfied. Dieters are asked to record everything in their workbooks, which also contain a five-minute daily devotional reading and activities.

The program is divided into six-week sessions, which include daily workbook activities and a weekly video presentation. Some people need more time to lose all the weight they wish, so there are workbooks one can purchase for up to 24 weeks. The PRISM program is designed to be used best in a support group type setting, where members meet and share weekly. People may also enroll via correspondence or purchase the program materials individually. If you wish to start a group within your church, you must have at least six people and get your pastor’s permission.
