Maker's Diet
The Maker’s Diet is a weight-loss plan written by Jordan Rubin, a natural health practitioner. He devised his plan based on carefully chosen Biblical passages and precepts, trying to come up with a system for healthy living that would be simple and based on nutritious, whole foods. The Maker’s Diet consists of a 40-day “purification” phase, followed by a “lifetime of wellness.” Some of the diet’s stipulations are somewhat unique. For example, Rubin tells dieters to follow the ancient Jewish dietary laws, saying they were given to us for our protection. That means no more lobster or bacon! Forget your catfish and clams, too.
Rubin claims that you can improve your health and lose weight safely by using your diet to attack the three “evil I’s”—infection, insulin, and inflammation. Eating less refined sugar and choosing whole grains over simple carbohydrates will help your body regulate insulin more effectively, he says. Apparently, other food choices you make can improve your body’s risk of infection and calm any inflammation you might be experiencing. Attacking insulin, infection, and inflammation, Rubin says, will slow down the body’s aging process and restore your energy. He also suggests that you purchase dietary supplements, including “natural soil organisms” to improve your digestive function. Not coincidentally, the dietary supplements are sold by his company, Garden of Life.
