IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) Diet

Irritable Bowel Syndrome sufferers know that weight loss, while a concern for many, is not a much of a priority for them as reducing painful and embarrassing attacks of diarrhea and/or constipation. While the IBS Foundation does not recognize an official Irritable Bowel Syndrome Diet, Heather Van Vorous has recently written a book called Eating for IBS, in which she details a diet that she has refined constantly in her over 20 years of battling the condition.

Most people with IBS know that their diet affects the way their symptoms manifest, and the IBS diet confirms this to be true. Van Vorous claims that eating the right way can make the difference between a person feeling “stuck in the bathroom all the time” and living a happy life. After all, IBS sufferers often find it more difficult to lose weight. Her book discusses the different types of fiber and how they affect IBS, as well as some common dietary misconceptions of IBS sufferers. The diet book contains daily menus, advice for eating out and traveling, over 170 recipes, ideas for grocery shopping, and other tips for managing your condition while promoting weight loss. The recipes are far from bland, according to reviewers; in fact, Eating for IBS was nominated for the Julia Child award in the category of Special Diets.
