Fat Flush Diet
Ann Louise Gittleman, Ph.D., a former nutritionist at the Pritikin Longevity Center, premiered the “Fat Flush” diet concept in her book Beyond Pritikin. She claims that the Fat Flush weight loss plan will help you lose weight by “detoxifying” your liver, which she says is extremely important in burning fat. Instead of completely restricting fats, Gittleman advises dieters to eat the right kinds of fat. She emphasizes GLA (gamma-linoleic acid), which is an omega-6 fat. This kind of fat, normally found in the hulls of some seeds and cold-water fish, is not easy to find in the American diet.
She also claims that by following her plan, your hormones will be balanced, your insulin will be more regulated, and you will experience less stress in your life. These factors contribute to weight gain, and therefore by controlling them, you can lose weight, faster. The plan begins with an extremely strict two to six-week “detoxifying” phase in which your calories are limited to 1100 calories a day. After that, you can start adding certain foods back into your diet, and the diet is more like a traditional low-carbohydrate diet. Finally, there is the maintenance phase, in which you must follow general guidelines to remain at your ideal weight.
