Choose to Lose Diet
The Choose to Lose Diet has been around for over 15 years. Written by Nancy and Ronald Goor, the weight loss plan focuses on retraining yourself to change your diet permanently. Thus, say the authors, you’re more likely to lose weight permanently. It is a huge book, with over 500 pages of healthy eating advice, exercise strategies, sample menus and recipes for healthful food.
If you’re looking to cut carbohydrates, look elsewhere: Choose to Lose is primarily a “fat-watching” diet rather than a carb-counting one. A main weight loss strategy is counting your fat grams and spreading them out through the day. It is educational for those people who have not paid attention to food labels. By helping you discover the hidden fats in your diet, the Goors aim to help you decide which ones you can do without. In addition, they discuss which fats are “bad” and which fats are better for you.
An important feature of the book is a comprehensive food table with data on every food you can think of. Calories, fat content, and nutritional value are discussed. This is a moderately reduced-calorie diet, and not a “crash diet.” Therefore, the minimum calorie count they recommend is 1,500 a day. The authors do not believe that diet pills or vitamin supplements are necessary to lose weight or to maintain good health.
