Arthritis Diet
The following arthritis diet is one that is recommended by naturopathic practitioners as a way of relieving arthritis symptoms, but some argue that it helps you to lose weight. According to homeopathic principles, arthritis is caused by having too much acid buildup in the body and this alkaline diet, if followed for a month, will allow the body to detoxify and recover from overacidity.
There are very specific foods to avoid. These include red meats, dairy, flour, citrus fruit, sugar, coffee, salt, butter, chocolate, and dry roasted nuts. You may wonder what is left! Well, there are quite a few foods that are acceptable on the arthritis diet. These include white fish, legumes, chicken and eggs. Acceptable grains include oats, brown rice, corn, rye, and other whole, non-wheat grains. All fruit (except citrus) and vegetables are fine to eat, but they suggest limiting high-acid tomatoes to twice a week.
At the end of the one-month period, you should reintroduce “forbidden” foods, one at a time, in small quantities. It goes without saying that a diet that eliminates sugar and red meat and emphasizes whole grains, fruits and vegetables will probably help with weight loss as well…just a bonus to an arthritis sufferer!
